Although we know that the two things that sell a house is price and exposure and even though a superstition won’t sell a property, we thought it would be fun to look at some home selling superstitions. I am sure you have heard the saying “desperate times call for despite measures” and in the past we have found some of our sellers willing to try one of these superstitions and guess what? ….the properties sold!
Superstitions are found throughout many cultures and are typically passed down from one generation to the next. Here are a couple of superstitions that are believed to help sell homes.
St. Josephs – The legend states that if you bury a statue of St. Josephs, your home will sell quickly. A few key factors are; the statue must be buried upside down in your front yard, facing the road near the sign if possible. Once the statue is buried the home seller is to have faith that the patron saint of Real Estate will help sell the house. {Having some positive thoughts and good vibes never hurts when having a home on the market} When the sale is complete, the seller is to dig up the statue and bring it to the new home to display in a position of respect and honour.
Lucky Penny Over Door Frame – this one was made known to me just this year. We have all heard the term “lucky penny” and know that if you “see a lucky penny you are to pick it up, and all the day you will have good luck!” Well – it is said that if you place a penny over the door frame of your bedrooms, bathrooms and entry door to the home, then you will have good luck in selling your home quickly. We were recently attending a home inspection and saw several pennies above the doors of this particular home. The home inspector shared his understanding of the superstition and said he has seen it several times while inspecting homes. Our buyers purchased this home so maybe the penny’s did bring the home sellers luck!
The number 8 – In the Chinese culture the number 8 is a symbol of luck. You may have noticed that some listing prices on realtor.ca end in 888. If you are lucky enough to have the number 8 in your address then you should have no worries when listing your home!
